Committee of Management Half Year Update

Committee of Management

Congregation Update June 2023

The Committee of Management (COM) has a formal meeting every two months to oversee the facilities at Carina. The committee has formally met 4 times this year and consists of the elected managers and any board members who wish to attend. Members of the congregation are welcome to observe meetings.   Meetings include regular reports on the Finance position of the church, updates on facilities maintenance and longer term planning activities.

The COM utilises a Microsoft Share Point internal secure site to assist in our communications. Living Church Staff are also able to log job request on this site for action by COM.  Since the beginning of this year there has been over 50 items to action logged by staff and the committee. Of these 29 have been completed with the rest either in progress or waiting for further scoping or resourcing.

The significant items completed include repairs and replacements of carpark and other lighting, cutting back trees on the southside of the building, replacing old computer systems used by the staff and ministry teams and a number of maintenance and furniture repairs including the main signage on the Creek Road front of building. A working bee held in May covered off many small jobs while specialised or larger jobs have been undertaken by contractors.

There are items at our facilities that COM is seeking information before making decisions. These include:

Air Conditioning

The committee commissioned a report into our air conditioning from another supplier. The committee has learned from the report that our system is older technology and other options may be worthwhile considering. As such, COM is preparing a request for quotations to upgrade our air conditioning and will approach multiple suppliers.

Auditorium Speakers

COM sought due diligence on a proposal to replace the speakers in the main auditorium by trialling these at a recent weekend as well as a small group visiting the supplier to understand the technical aspects.   The speakers recommended will require a new way to affix to our auditorium and a structural engineer has provided advice for suitable beams before any installation can proceed.

Website

The website and associated technology for Living Church is in need of an update. Tim Collard is leading a team, after Janet Sutton conducted some initial investigations, to implement improvements over coming months.

East Side Fenced Area

The replacement of the fence and expansion of the outside area has been discussed for some time. While we cannot proceed with the larger covered area plan at this time, we can undertake earthworks to remove rock and make the area friendlier for activities. We also plan to relocate the demountable and replace the fence. A plan has now been drawn up and final quotations being sought before proceeding later this year.

Other Items in progress

There are other items in progress including: Replacing the soft fall in the children’s play area (has been quoted), Investigations into repairs to carpark asphalt, repairing youth marquee and church chairs, planning for kitchen improvements, blinds on East Side windows amongst others.

The COM allocates categories of work to members of the Committee to oversee. These members of your committee are happy to discuss any aspects with you.
